UK: Biometrische ID-Card soll von Bürgern bezahlt werden

Wenn es nach Innenminister David Blunkett geht, wird bald jeder Britte 25 Pfund für eine obligatorische elektronische ID-Karte hinblättern müssen. Geplant ist damit die biometrische Zwangsbeglückung der Iris. Warum man bei einem solch zweifelhaften Konzept, dann auch noch für teures Geld Daten auf Karte mit sich rumtragen muss, wo doch gerade die Biometrie Gadgetlose Identifikation und Authentifikation verspricht, scheint rätselhaft.

Everyone in Britain will have to pay around £25 for a compulsory
identity card under proposals being put to the cabinet by David
Blunkett, the Home Secretary.

The "smart" card will identify the holder using iris-recognition
technology. Failure to carry the card will not be an offence but
police will be able to order people to present it at a police station. [...]
